Of the many thousands of species that have evolved in isolation on the Australian continent, three species - the Banksia, Waratah and Eucalyptus - are representative of a diverse array of unusual flowers found across Australia.

The Banksia, Banksia serrata, is known for its unusual flower-spike covered with as many as 1000 individual flowers. Its striking serrated-edge leaf shape has developed in isolation on the Australian continent for millenia. It is one of many unique species which make up the diverse Australian landscape.
